Law Suites filed alleging negligence on School's part.
January 16, 2004: Grundy, Virginia -
On the second anniversary
of a deadly shooting rampage at the Appalachian School of Law, three
survivors filed lawsuits alleging school officials to ignore signs that
could have prevented the killings.
A fourth lawsuit that included similar accusations was
filed on behalf of the family of Angela Dales, a student who died in the
Jan. 16, 2002, shootings, which also took the lives of the school's dean and
a professor.
The suits, filed on behalf of Dales and former students
Rebecca Brown, Martha Short and Stacey Beans, name the Grundy law school;
its president, Lucius Ellsworth; and professor Dale Rubin as defendants.
The suits portray school officials as being so concerned
with accreditation that the ignored the safety of their students and staff.
The suits also allege school officials ignored the
warnings of students and staff that Peter Odighizuwa

charged with capital murder and attempted capital murder in the shootings -
was a threat before and after he flunked out of school.
