Why Didn't We See It Coming! Have you been wanting to provide a School Violence Prevention Program but could not afford the training time or the budget required for such a program? This two tape set with training manuals, allows the School District to train all its Assessment Team members in the proper use of a "Early Warning Signs" Assessment Tool. Training can be conducted individually or in small groups without disrupting the entire school. Staff may even take it home and do small segments in the evening until complete. At the conclusion of the training, each participant will complete a brief quiz and return it to Keys for Certification. All other school personnel can view the abbreviated version as an in-service training and be able to know and observe "The Early Warning Signs" of potential violence. Teachers and other staff will now be able to recognize the common traits of those who have committed violence in other school settings. Without labeling the students, they will have a reporting mechanism that will provide a sense of confidence. A select group, the Assessment Team, at each school will be certified in the collection of information and application of the Keys Assessment Tool. Without violating privacy or unnecessarily labeling students, they will be able to provide intervention for those who may be headed in the wrong direction. Administrators will be armed with an objective tool for making tough decision about referring students for needed services or taking other corrective actions, if students make verbal threats or other violations.
