Agent Agundez - Hero in the El Cajon, CA. School Shooting - Granite Hills High School
Top
|
AGENT RICHARD AGUNDEZ,
School Resource Officer, is a 20 veteran of law enforcement with the El
Cajon, California Police Department. Agent Agundez was visiting Granite
Hills High School (one of two schools he worked as an SRO) when shots rang
out and panic swept the campus. His training saved the day as he identified
the source of the shots and quickly moved into position to eliminate the
threat and restore safety his assigned school. From other school shootings
that had no SRO to respond, we can only speculate as to how many lives may
have been spared by his presence and training. Agent Agundez has served in a number of more traditional law enforcement
roles including seven years as a member of the elite Special Weapons And
Tactics (SWAT) Team. Prior to becoming an SRO he served the community and
schools as a DARE Officer. Agent Agundez serves or has served on the Boards
of Directors of:
- El Cajon Police Officers Association
- National Latino Peace Officers Association
- El Cajon S.W.A.T. Officers Association
- East County Youth Development Advisory Council
