Homeland Security Codes and Specific Tasks School Should Enact

Does your school know what to do--specifically--when Homeland Security announces a Terror Alert Color Code? School Administrators have enough on their plates now without having to become Terrorism Experts. Keys To Safer Schools.com has developed a comprehensive training designed to familiarize school staffs with the realities of international terrorism and specific actions that can be taken (with budget restrictions in mind) by the school to enhance the safety of their students. This training will present concrete actions in the areas of:

  • Crisis Planning Integrated with First Responders
  • Student Transportation
  • Vending Machines
  • Parent Involvement
  • Food Service
  • Traffic Control
  • Visitor Control
  • Media Relations
  • and many others

As with all Keys training, this information is based on research and first-hand experience; it is not theory but practical procedures that can be put in place today. Call Keys now and rest assured that your school will have the best training available.

Bullying - BULLYING STOPS when RESPECT BEGINS (c)

School students have reported an increase in bullying with severe consequences to themselves and their schools. As if this were not enough, bullying has been identified in a national study as a factor in the recent school shootings. At Columbine a group of school athletes bullied the two boys who later became shooters. Almost any group in anyone's school could be the "bullies" and and it would be accurate at some point in time. Bullying can be physical, emotional or social. Keys' Bullying Program offers four modules to fully address the different aspects of this complex issue.  These are:

  1. The Victim: How to handle being bullied by a peer.

  2. The Bully: How to identify the need for bullying and better ways to meet that need.

  3. The School: How to deal with both sides of bullying in a productive manner.

  4. The Parent: How to recognize signs that your child is being bullied, how to help your child cope with bullies and how to interact with the school about a bullying situation.

ANGER MANAGEMENT & DE-ESCALATION  TRAINING

This training is based on National Research and a must training for those that work with children, adolescents and young adults. It is a "practical" training that teaches how to recognize anger, manage anger and de-escalate volatile situations in the classroom. It trains the Trainers three levels of controlling anger and that is to first control themselves, then control the situation, and finally to control the student. This training introduces Huan Ju, The Art of Redirection. It provides physical and non-physical means to stop or break up a fight with minimal risk to all involved. The techniques taught protect the dignity of the combatants, which minimizes the probability of retaliation or recurrence.  The unique character of this system is that it is NOT pain inducing, it maintains dignity, it is geared toward students in school rather than adults in residential settings and trainers are re-certified every 2 years - unlike other trainings methods.

  • Behavior Modification Planning

This component has been enthusiastically received by school counselors, social workers, examiners and others who have found themselves dealing with troubled students. It guides participants through the process of recognizing the underlying causes of behavior disorders, developing a plan to effect behavioral changes and provides practical application of the completed behavior modification plan.

  • System Elements to a Behavioral Component
This component provides School Districts with the development of the System Elements to a Level Systems.  The Level System refers to a "limited access program," or a program, which allows increased freedom and privileges as students exhibit appropriate behaviors. The level system is a behavior management system in which rules, student responsibilities, and student privileges are divided into hierarchical stages or levels. Each progressively higher level in the system requires the student to exhibit higher levels of appropriate, academic and socially desirable behavior. As the student progresses through the levels, s/he earns greater privileges and rewards. A student at the lowest level in the system has the most external controls on his/her behavior and the fewest privileges. A student at the highest level in the system has the fewest external controls on his/her behavior and the most privileges. At the highest level, the student is approaching the conditions demanded in the regular classroom and s/he is expected to demonstrate behaviors, which are necessary for success in the mainstream school.
During this training we will look at National Used Templates of
*Polices  * Procedures  * Guidelines * Forms and  * Level System Model

This Student Assembly is part of the overall Bully Stop when Respect Begins campaign.  During the assembly students will act out skits to help them understand what a victim & Bully look like and how to handle differing situations dealing with bullying.  We will look at the difference between teasing and bullying; between tattle-telling and responsible-telling.  Here are some other topics that will be covered:

  1. The Victim: How to handle being bullied by a peer.

Two Day - Train-the-Trainer

Keys announces the most anticipated, relevant and requested National Pilot Training Program as outlined in the Columbine Report, namely the

Train-the-Trainers: Certification Training - Assessing the Potentially Dangerous Student (PDS).

Currently Keys has required their Mental Health Violence Prevention Experts to conduct this one-of-a-kind training.  Due to the increasing demand on Keys staff to train individuals in the Assessing of the PDS, Keys is offering this two day Train-the-trainer event to selected, qualified individuals.

Click here to Register for training.

This is the most essential training available to schools and youth workers today. With the ever increasing frequency of school shootings, it is time that we do something about it. Building upon National Level research by the Department of Education, Office of Juvenile Justice, the FBI, the Secret Service and others, Keys' has developed a most unique approach to the detection and prevention of School Violence. It looks at "Why" we miss these students, "What" to do to identify them, and "How" to provide help for them.  There is an emphasis on identification, assessment and training of early and imminent warning signs of the PDS. This training provides schools a component of the Risk Assessment Team Model that meets the guidelines of the Commission Report on Columbine for effectively identifying students who may need help. Unlike training seminars that merely provide theory and information, this training will produce Certification and a Train-the-Trainer Model for instituting/using the Keys To Safe Schools.com Assessment Tool, a unique device that identifies students in need of help. But schools should not stop with training Assessment Teams but should take the next step and provide an in-service for ALL staff in identification of the Potentially Dangerous Students.
